First Light Spelling Bee
RSVP

First Light Spelling Bee Saturday, June 20 · Doors at 3pm, Bee at 4pm

It's the first-ever, quasi-competitive First Light Adult Spelling Bee. Sneaky high stakes and a little bit of academic mischief, all for good times and a great cause.

Doors open at 3pm, and the bee kicks off at 4. Come early: Bad Larry will be slinging burgers starting at 3, the beer and wine bar will be open, and Cold Ones will have popsicles on hand. We'll have a tent and misters going, so you can spectate in shaded, well-misted comfort.

Then settle in for a two-hour Scripps-style spelling bee. Hard words, local glory, a few slightly absurd cheat codes in play, and comedic running commentary throughout. Delightfully P-E-R-S-P-I-C-A-C-I-O-U-S.

Competitor sign-ups are now full, but if you were hoping to take the stage, add your name to the waitlist and we'll reach out if a spot opens up. We'll also have limited room for spontaneous entry: show up when doors open and pass a quick spelling test to win your way into the Bee. And there's plenty of room in the crowd, so RSVP for an audience spot to come watch and cheer the spellers on.

All proceeds benefit BookSpring, the Austin-based nonprofit working to ignite a love of reading in young children across under-resourced parts of Texas through no-cost books and family literacy programming. Learn more at bookspring.org.

Big thanks to our sponsors, St. Elmo Brewing and Miscellaneous Rentals, for making the whole thing P-O-S-S-I-B-L-E.
