Morgan Page & Dustin Rice: Bones of Texas
RSVP

Photographers Morgan Page and Dustin Rice celebrate the Austin launch of Bones of Texas: Photos and Stories From Bygone Places, joined by special guest Lance Tahmahkera.

Doors at 6:00 PM · Conversation at 6:30 PM · Signing to follow · November 8 · First Light Books

At 6:30 PM, Morgan and Dustin share the stories behind the book: the ghost towns, abandoned buildings, and neglected cemeteries they've tracked down over years of crisscrossing Texas back roads. They'll be joined by Lance Tahmahkera, great-great-grandson of Comanche Chief Quanah Parker, who worked with the authors to explain battles across Texas from the Comanche perspective. In a month dedicated to Native American heritage, it's a chance to hear Texas history from more than one side of the story. Expect a conversation about photography, research, and what these places still have to tell us, followed by audience Q&A and a book signing.

BONES OF TEXAS
Morgan Page and Dustin Rice love history, especially the history of ordinary people and places.

What began as an early date for the authors, a road trip to Spanish Fort, a ghost town near Wichita Falls, grew into years of crisscrossing Texas in search of stories hidden in abandoned buildings, neglected cemeteries, and all-but-forgotten towns. Page and Rice have shared these stories in photography exhibits across the state, and now they've brought together nearly 100 of the best shots, accompanied by 28 compelling histories. Each story, and every photo, is an act of preservation, allowing readers to encounter Texas history as a landscape of lives once lived, even as the physical markers continue to decay. Ultimately, the "bones" that Page and Rice encountered, often mysterious, always evocative, transcend time and place, and now endure in the pages of this unique book.
