First Light is delighted to welcome children’s book superstars Mac Barnett and Shawn Harris for a special offsite, family-friendly event celebrating the publication of The Future Book. Taking place on Tuesday March 3, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Special Events Center at the Austin Public Library, this event will be an interactive, performance-forward evening designed for kids and their grown-ups.

Barnett and Harris will present a lively theatrical program featuring dramatic readings, playful performances, music, and plenty of imaginative hijinks inspired by The Future Book. Families are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters or in future-inspired costumes. The evening will also include photo opportunities with the authors and additional hands-on fun, making this a celebratory and engaging experience for young readers.

• Tickets include a copy of the featured book and admit up to 3 attendees. Younger guests must be accompanied by an adult.
• Books will be pre-signed with no personalization and available for pick-up at the event. In lieu of a signing line, fans will have a chance to get their photo taken with Mac and Shawn.
• Additional pre-signed copies of The Future Book will be available for purchase at the event.

About the Authors

Shawn Harris is an award-winning illustrator and artist known for his bold, expressive visual style. His books include Have You Ever Seen a Flower? and Her Right Foot. Together, Barnett and Harris are celebrated collaborators whose work blends playful storytelling with striking artistic vision.
